WILD LIFE comes out tomorrow and I can hardly contain myself! If you’re excited, too, you can get a taste of what’s in store by reading my article on Narratively: How Living with Baboons Prepared Me for Living through High School.

We are eight days out from publication and I am losing my mind with excitement! It’s been over 10 years since I first started writing this book (30 years if you count the childhood journal entries that are included throughout text) and I honestly never thought this day would actually arrive.

Before pub day, I want to thank all the people that helped me take this project to the finish line, starting with my incredible agent Jeff Kleinman and my amazing editor Millicent Bennett. So many people have been involved along the way and I’m truly thankful for everyone’s input and advice and support. I especially want to give a shout out to the fantastic book bloggers and reviewers I’ve met this past year!

If you are interested in reading the book or purchasing it for someone else as a gift, please take a moment to pre-order it now. Pre-order sales are a massive factor in the success of any book, especially that of a debut author.

I hope you will also consider joining me at one of my upcoming events. I would absolutely love to say hello and sign a copy of the book for you. My event calendar is always up to date with tour and interview info starting with the release party on November 12, 2019.

Thank you again for your interest in the book! Stay tuned for more updates about launch activities.

Friends, as of today we are TWO MONTHS away from publication day! I’m so excited. That also means that it’s crunch time for pre-orders and I HAVE SWAG TO SHARE!

In case you’re not familiar, pre-ordering a book is probably the most helpful thing you can do for an author, and especially a debut author like me. Pre-orders count towards determining how many of your books your publisher will print, and since all pre-orders are counted in the first week of sales, it’s how books end up on best-seller lists in their first week. And I really need your help!

If you’re interested in pre-ordering WILD LIFE, I’m adding some links below where you can buy it (including Kindle and International shipping). You can also always request and reserve WILD LIFE at your local library – which doesn’t cost you anything AND means more books for others! (Libraries are the best).

Once you’re done, upload a screenshot of your receipt (or confirmation of your library reservation) here and I’ll send you a Baboon Camp sticker. I’m also going to use Rafflecopter to randomly select one winner a week who will also get a sweet Baboon Camp backpack with a special surprise inside.

I’ve been nail-biting for a couple of weeks now since my advanced review copies went out to other authors, bloggers, media outlets and book reviewers. It has been terrifying to put Wild Life out into the world and know that soon the feedback would begin to arrive. But, the thrill of getting emails letting me know that people liked it, that some of the most discerning professionals in the literary field ENJOYED it, has been worth every second of the wait.

I am so very grateful to those that are taking the time to read my novel and, even better, write about it. And, I’d like to extend a special thank you to Madeline Miller, Maggie Shipstead, and Kirkus for their early praise- it means everything to me.

We’re doing a giveaway!

Three other queer authors and I teamed up to do a Pride-themed pre-order campaign for our books. Queer books you say?? By queer authors?? YES. ALSO THEY ARE AMAZING.
First up, we have LORD OF SECRETS by Breanna Teintze. There are necromancers. They live in a dark and complicated world where magic is both boundless and painful and secrets are layered upon secrets. Did I mention they’re GAY NECROMANCERS? Coming to a bookstore near you in August.
Second, THE LIBRARY OF THE UNWRITTEN by A.J. Hackwith. Ever wonder what it would be like if Hell had a bi-librarian caught in a power struggle between Heaven and Hell? Does it not sound like the most goddamn creative story of all time? Also an October debut.
Third, THE IMPOSSIBLE CONTRACT by K.A. Doore. This is the second in the Chronicles of Ghadid series, where queer assassins leap across rooftops and battle sand demons, their feelings, and each other. Also WHAT A COVER. Coming November.
Lastly, my book WILD LIFE! It’s a memoir about my life growing up half in my parents’ primate research camp in Botswana and half in a fancy private school in the US. It’s about me! I’m gay! I climb trees and have adventures just being a gay kid! Also that’s really me on the cover. Coming November 12!
SO YES! Pre-order any or all of these books and get some sweet Pride-themed bookplates from us right there in your mailbox. Submit receipts here. HAPPY PRIDE!!!!
